well what if there was a lot of chop, they were going upwind, with the keel canted then it could be in those conditions

Good point that some of the parameters used in the tank are not the way you will encounter them when actually sailing. What you try to do is understanding how certain changes in hull shape effect the performance and behaviour. The simulation is done by CFD but in certain areas you need to validate / quantify assumptions you are making. For this you go to the tank an test/quanitfy modifications. I can imagine that this model was not the only one that was tested in the tank.

Cool footage, but curious about what is learned from powering the hull 90degrees into well-spaced steep ocean chop, especially at that angle of heel. Realizing it’s Tank Testing, but would guess the hull driven at that boatspeed through that relative chop would have more heel, and likely have two or more wave directions to contend with. Tanks are also poor at simulating decelerating hull speeds bourne by pounding sea-state like that. BUT, we love ‘em and thanks for the unique video post!
