you allways have to be in equilibrium in any aspect, drag can make you lose some of your velocity, an waves make the boat get out of equilibrium, its better to try not to hav too much drag and try not to

i sail optimist. i have bumped in to a laser
February 27th, 2010 at 5:55 am
NEVER hit the waves.
you will lose a lot of speed, everything’s better than hitting the waves
February 27th, 2010 at 6:20 am
what’s worse: hitting waves and not planing or a little stern drag
February 27th, 2010 at 7:00 am
ya but then u have stern drag

Radials have a smaller sail area so they are slower. The women use the radials in the olympics and the men use full rigs.
February 27th, 2010 at 7:41 am
I think these were radials and they are a little faster than regular if i know right.

but if you are on a reach in strong winds, you automaticly slide back , just because it feels much better. in the end uve got to find the perfect position for yourself

If you’re sitting in the back of your boat, the boat lifts out of the water .. then you don’t crash in the waves and you don’t have so much contact to the water

if he goes to the front too much the nose will dive into the water, a nose dive. so by sitting at back as much as possible the nose gets higher on the water so that is won´t dive

the helm is sitting right back (with the wind behind him) to promote ‘planing’ (like a speedboat), likewise sitting forward when beating (into the wind) reduces drag on the boat hull

the guy at 3:55 is hanging ‘in the back’ of his boat. I always though that it was best to sit as close to the mast as possible? could anyone help me out?
February 27th, 2010 at 9:04 am
i didnt know lasers could go that fast! i have only sailed mine about 6 times, where are some of these races?
February 27th, 2010 at 9:39 am
I thought there were 3, 4.7 radial and full
